Welcome to the Subscribers' Home Page

This section has been completely updated to include more of what you want and need. Please let us know if there's anything you would like to see on the site or a download that would be useful for you. Feel free to e-mail us your suggestions.

Authorising Applications

Authorising student applications is quick and easy. When a students submits a visit application on the HOST website, our database sends you an email containing a link to their application and asks you to confrm their student status. If the applicant is a registered international student, please click "allow" and if not, click "disallow". You can then simply keep the e-mails as a check on how many visits you have authorised.

For more information on how to operate HOST's application system, please refer to the ISAs Handbook here.

Invoicing

We issue invoices to our subscribing institutions quarterly. Each covers the charges relevant to the number of student applications authorised in the previous quarter. With each one, you will receive a printout of the applications included.

We are encouraging as many of you as possible to make payment by BACS into our Bank Account. This is CAF Bank, sort code 40-52-40, account number 00013220.

If you have any queries, please contact Sue on 020 7739 6292.

Orientation events and HOST socials

We offer free orientation events and HOST socials to our subscribing institutions. Please contact us if you would like us to arrange an information stall, presentation, or HOST tea party to show your students how a HOST visit can enrich their time in the UK.

Recruiting hosts

Due to increasing numbers of students coming on HOST visits, we are actively seeking to increase our number of hosts so that we can continue to offer a variety of areas, dates and hosts to the students. However, we are short of hosts nationwide.

If you can place a short article about HOST aimed at recruiting hosts in the staff newsletter or website or if you are involved in a faith group or other community that could help publicise HOST, please let us know. Your help will be appreciated. Please e-mail Ulka.

Some Comments on the HOST programme

The HOST scheme provides a unique opportunity for international students studying in the UK to meet and engage with British people in their own environment. NYUL students who participate on HOST consistently state that they would recommend the scheme to other students and a majority rate the programme as the overall highlight of their four month stay in the UK. HOST is an increasingly important programme for promoting cultural engagement and all international students studying in the UK should be given the opportunity to participate.

- Robert Pinkerton, ISA for New York University London

It's hard work promoting HOST when there's so much else to do, but it's definitely worth it!. Meeting and really getting on well with complete (British) strangers does wonders for students - it opens their eyes to a whole new world! Every student gets something unique out of a HOST visit - from the most assured of Chevening scholars to someone who has never travelled abroad before
