Have you come to the UK as an international student, graduate fellow, language assistant or volunteer for at least 1 semester or 3 months?

Would you like to meet British residents away from the campus and experience their way of life?

Would you appreciate a short break in a real home, and the chance to taste home-cooked food?

Would it help you to practise English with native speakers, and to explore a part of the country with a local resident?

What is HOST all about?

People: Our volunteer hosts offer a friendly welcome and an insight into their customs and way of life. They enjoy meeting people from other countries and can help with English conversation practice.

Food: Eating home-cooked meals and discovering regional specialities are important parts of a HOST visit.

Travel: There are hosts throughout the UK and wherever you go you will be a guest, not a tourist.

Why is a HOST opportunity not to be missed?

It is flexible – visits are available for one to three days at weekends all year round, Christmas, New Year and other festivals. If your university or college doesn’t have a visiting scheme with local families try HOST; if you want to travel further from where you are studying for a weekend ask HOST.

It is safe – because all hosts are known to us personally. You don’t have to go alone, you can go with an international student friend or your partner and children if they are living in the UK with you.

Whether you prefer to meet people near your place of work or study, or to travel to another part of the country, we will do our best to find the right invitation for you. All we ask is

Find out more by asking the International Office where you are studying, your British Council representative or us at info@hostuk.org
